Congratulations, CC-FT Batch 1!

We congratulate the 29 co-learners and 2 learning associates of the Certificate Course on Futures Thinking (CC-FT) for graduating with overwhelming victory! The virtual graduation ceremony for the CC-FT was held last October 30, 2020, 2:00 PM via Zoom.

Welcoming the attendees, Dr. Lizan Perante-Calina, SVP and Dean of the DAP-GSPDM, began by recounting how the Certificate Course came to be. She connected its fruition with the creation of GSPDM’s Knowledge Innovation HubLab which has Futures Studies as one of its six platforms. Dr. Perante-Calina saw this course as purposive, it being a step towards democratizing Futures Thinking in the country by incorporating it in the public administration and governance landscape.

Hon. Pia Cayetano, Senator, Senate of the Philippines, graced the culmination event as the Keynote Speaker. As the Chair of the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation and Futures Thinking, her message focused on the important role that the co-learners will play to effectively harness Futures Thinking as a unique skill whether they are part of the public or private sector. Senator Cayetano warmly congratulated the co-learners and the learning management team for successfully weaving together the certificate course.

Dr. Maya Van Leemput, Lector and Senior Researcher, Futures Research, Erasmus University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Brussels gave an inspirational message as the Guest of Honor. Dr. Leemput welcomed the co-learners to the world of futures thinkers. She highlighted the fact that Futures Thinking is important in the present time as it reveals an orientation that articulates certain images of the future. She imparted the main message that even if you can never be ready for the future, navigating through it makes you resilient.

Apart from the e-certificates of completion, special awards were also given to the co-learners in recognition of their exemplary Scenario Development Project, the major final output of the course. Special Citations for Superior Scenario Development Project were awarded to:

Board Secretary III, Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur

6. Mr. Joaquin Panaligan

Record Officer III, Sangguniang Bayan Office of Narra, Palawan

On the other hand, Certificates of Recognition for Best Scenario Development Project were given to:

1. Ms. Pamela Carbonell

2. Ms. Nicole Anne Parreno

Political Affairs Assistant, House of Representatives

3. Dr. Mario Aguja

Professor, Mindanao State University-General Santos City

The CC-FT was conducted for 12 weekends of extensive lectures with Prof. Shermon Cruz, Supervising Fellow of Futures Thinking and Director and Chief Futurist of the Center for Engaged Foresight. Brownbag lectures were also conducted with the following Futurists as resource speakers:

2. Dr. Marcus Bussey

Lecturer in History and Futures Studies, University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia

3. Dr. Nur Anisah Abdullah

Senior Teaching Fellow in Knowledge and Operation, Department of Management Science, Strathclyde Business School

4. Dr. Michael Jackson

Founder and Chairman, Shaping Tomorrow

Joining the class as learning associates were Dr. Ma. Oliva Domingo, Senior Fellow of DAP-GSPDM and Mr. Emmanuel de Guia, Consultant of the Senate of the Philippines and Treasurer of PhilFutures.

The CC-FT Learning Management Team is led by Ms. Celine Abella, Learning Manager, who is assisted by Learning Associates Ms. Edralin Galgo, Mr. Oliver Tan and Mr. Matthew Baylon. The team is supervised by Ms. CJ Almodal, Program Manager.
