DAP Graduate School held MPM-DevSec MSS Batch 2’s In-Class Special Lecture
7 June 2022 - The series of in-class special lectures continued on the third day of the PCG-225: International Maritime Norms, Innovations and Best Practices module under the Master in Public Management major in Development and Security with specialization in Maritime Safety and Security (MPM DevSec MSS) Batch 2 program. Dr. Francis C. Domingo, who is an expert in cybersecurity and an Assistant Professor of International Studies at De La Salle University, expressed his gratitude to DAP and to Dr. Cabalza for giving him opportunity to talk and explore on a topic that is somewhat quite new and interesting to him as well, that is, “Innovations and Trends in Maritime Cybersecurity.”
After a run-through on the basics of cyber studies which include how countries or organizations strategically use cyberspace, and an introduction on the concept of cybersecurity and cyber weapons, Dr. Domingo proceeded to discuss in-depth the significance of the maritime sector, as well as cite possible scenarios of maritime cyber threats and issues – how they manifest and how they could affect the Philippine Coast Guard. Lastly, he enumerates and highlights the different ways of strengthening cybersecurity both in the global and state levels. As always, the lecture ends with a question and answer portion with the speaker followed by a quick synthesis discussion facilitated by Dr. Cabalza.
The MPM DevSec MSS Batch 2 is a twinning program between the Development Academy of the Philippines - Graduate School of Public and Development Management (DAP-GSPDM) and the Coast Guard-12 Education and Training-Philippine Coast Guard (CG12-PCG). It is managed by the Learning Management Team from the Security Governance and Diplomacy Cluster (SGDC).
